Dr. Ahmed Elmokashfi is a senior research scientist and Head of department for Centre for resilient Networks and applications (CRNA).

His research interests include Internet resiliency and scalability, Mobile broadband reliability and performance, Internet and mobile broadband measurements, Large scale measurements infrastructures and Dynamical complex systems.

Senior Researcher, NUPI

Dr. Karsten Friis is a senior research fellow and leader of NUPI’s Security and Defence research group. He is an expert on Security and Defence Politics, International Military Operations and Civil-Military relations as well as on Cyber Security. In addition to his PhD, he holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from London School of Economics.

A professional System and Network Engineer with over 5-year experience covering various aspects including System administration in Windows (MCP/MCSA) & Linux Operation systems, Data Communication (CCNA, CCNP, CCNA Security, Wireless, MPLS, Network Management), Telecom (GSM, GPRS & UMTS), Antivirus Software (F-secure) and Cloud-computing (Openstack, Docker, Puppet). In addition, a professional level of knowledge in Software Development in C/C++ and Python, Git, Continuous delivery and automated testing.

Sobia Rind

PhD student, SimulaMet

Sobia holds a Masters Degree in Control and Instrumentation Engineering from Korea Maritime and Ocean University, South Korea,  a Diploma in Computer and Communication engineering from University of Limerick, Ireland and a Bachelor in Computer Engineering from Pakistan. 

She has research experience from the computer software industry in South Korea and is skilled in C#.NET, C++, WPF, MVC, Client Server development, network sockets programming, XML, Crystal Reports, ADO.NET, Entity Framework, LINQ, SQLite, MYSQL, Oracle and SQL Server Database. Furthermore, she has experience from Scrum Methodology and Software Development Life Cycle.

Sobia will be working on Data Link and Network layer security with the specific tasks on Delay measurements in the network in the Gaia project.

Dr. Thomas Dreibolz

Chief Research Engineer, SimulaMet

Thomas’ main responsibility is the design, development and management of the NorNet infrastructure. Furthermore, his research focus is on Reliable Server Pooling (RSerPool) as well as particularly on multi-path transport with the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) and Multi-Path TCP (MPTCP). He is also involved in standardisation in the IETF.

Dr. Haakon Bryhni

Research Professor, SimulaMet

Haakon Bryhni is a specialist in computer and telecom networks with special interest in supercomputers, network and IT security, blockchain, signal processing, computer architecture, mobile terminals, radio systems, SDR, mobile networks, 4G & 5G, IPR, management, negotiation, research, teaching, complex international sales processes, company startups, development and exit. 

Haakon holds a PhD in high speed communication and multiprocessor server systems from University of Oslo and a MSc from Norwegian Institute of Technology in telecommunication systems and is currently Research Professor at Simula Metropolitan Centre for Digital Engineering and a board member in several portfolio companies.

Dr. Aamir Gulistan

Postdoctoral Fellow, SimulaMet

Aamir is an experienced researcher in the field of Photonics and Optical communication. He did his PhD in Photonics from City, University of London where he worked on modelling and optimization of nanophotonic waveguides and Multimode fibres using Finite Element Method (FEM) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques. Aamir also has more than 4-year of teaching experience in Photonics, Electronics, LabView, Robotics and C programming at City, University of London. 

Currently, he is doing research on vulnerability and security issues in optical networks, focusing on the detection of physical sabotage of fibre cables by fibre cuts or insertion of noise signals. His research also focuses on the detection of eavesdropping activities in the network such as the use of fibre tapping devices.

Professor Olav Lysne

Director at SimulaMet

Olav Lysne is Director of Simula Metropolitan, Centre for Digital Engineering, and Professor at Oslo Metropolitan University. 

His main research area is how network architecture influences performance, quality and uptime for Broadband Networks. His research has sparked debate within the Norwegian Telecoms sector. 

In 2014 and 2015 Lysne led two separate Norwegian Government Commissions, advising government policy respectively on Digital vulnerability and the need for national Digital Autonomy.

Dr. Ioana Livadariu

Postdoctoral Fellow, SimulaMet

Ioana Livadariu is a Postdoctoral Fellow at SimulaMet in Oslo, Norway since 2018. Prior, she  worked towards completing her Ph.D on monitoring and understanding the IPv6 adoption, at the University of Oslo. Her project was conducted in close collaboration with researchers from CAIDA (Center of Advanced Internet Data Analysis) at the University of California San Diego where she was a visiting researcher in 2013 and 2015.

Research Engineer, SimulaMet

Alfred Arouna is an experienced system and network engineer who has managed the responsibilities of deploying infrastructure and critical services within tight deadlines in a production environment. His areas of interest are Internet Measurement, BGP and DNS.

Previously, he worked on projects ranging from security to software engineering.

Azan is a PhD student at SimulaMet. He holds a Master’s Degree in Data Analytics from National College of Ireland in Dublin. He has previously worked with IT consulting and E-commerce in the fields of Business Analysis and software development.

Dr. Niels Nagelhus Schia

Head of Centre for Cyber Security Studies, NUPI

With a focus on the role of cybersecurity and cybersecurity governance in international relations Schia tracks new developments in policy and research, and provide academic studies, expert analysis and strategic policy recommendations.

His research focus combines anthropology and international relations theory with theories of cyber security.

Dr. Steinar Bjørnstad

Senior Research Scientist, SimulaMet

Steinar Bjørnstad has specialised in optical and Ethernet communication and has extensive experience from the Telecom industry. His contribution includes more than 70 scientific publications and talks at conferences, patents and contribution to IEEE Ethernet standardisation. 

He is a Strategic Competence and Research Manager at Tampnet, senior research scientist at Simula and Adjunct Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Lars Gjesvik is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Cyber Security Studies at The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and the University of Oslo (UiO). 

His He holds a master’s degree in Politics from the University of Oslo and has previously studied International Affairs and History. His research interests are connected to Cyber Security, Internet Governance and Data Politics.
